     Jazz at the Wharf

A lively young jazz group made up for the disappointing weather at Llanymynech Wharf on Saturday, August. 19th .  Nevertheless, people braved the showers to listen to the jazz group and enjoy boat trips. J B Quintet were missing their keyboard player but Jamie Brownfield on trumpet, Joe Northwood on sax, Mike Waters on guitar and Lydia Glanville on drums put on a very good performance.  They played a varied  programme which about a hundred people enjoyed.

Two tented areas gave some protection though the BBQ cooks experienced occasional problems when water accumulated and cascaded off their roof onto the coals. Burgers, hot dogs and drinks, hot and cold, were on offer.   Many supporters gave their services as chefs, in the Visitor Centre or on the boat and all that was missing was the sun.

A second barbecue was held on September 24th to mark the end of our season. This time the sun shone and the warm weather ensured a successful day.

The George Watson Buck

Since the opening of the Llanymynech Length in May, the George Watson Buck has proved a magnet for visitors.

As our activities grow, we need more volunteers, both in our ‘traditional’ activities (manning the Visitor Centre and crewing the trip boat) and also for planning the re-creation of the Packet boat ‘Duchess Countess’ itself.    Anyone interested should contact John Martin on 01691 830506 or e-mail, packetboat@f2s.com

The success and progress of the whole project depends on a growing team of volunteers in the various sub-committees and an ever-growing membership.

If you are one of our active team of volunteers and/or a member of the Trust, please try to recruit a friend or relation to become involved.
